Property/casualty insurance carriers routinely use the ratings given fire departments nationwide by the Insurance Service Organization (ISO) to establish their premiums. Cazenovia residents are fortunate that our department is rated 4 on a 1-10 scale, about the best rating a volunteer company can achieve. The rating process is detailed, arduous and wide-ranging and includes the number and training of members, equipment, time of response, amount of water available and so on. A higher rating (8,9,10) means you pay more.
