Breast cancer presentation to be held at library
All are invited to attend a breast cancer education and awareness presentation in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room on Jan. 21 at 7 pm.
Leading the discussion will be Toni McEniry from ARISE, a non-profit non-residential community-based “Center for Independent Living” that was founded in 1979 to address the needs of people with disabilities and their families. Their focus is for people of all abilities to be treated fairly and to be integrated in their communities.
This program is funded through a grant from “Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” an organization supporting breast cancer research. Since its inception in 1982, Komen has raised over $1.3 billion for research, education, and health services, making it the largest breast cancer charity in the world.
All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, call 655-9322 or visit www.midyork.org/cazenovia.

Cazenovia Mayor Tom Dougherty; Cazenovia Town Supervisor Ralph Monforte; Nelson Town Supervisor Roger Bradstreet; Fenner Town Supervisor Russ Cary and Cazenovia Central School District Superintendent Robert Dubik will each make a brief presentation about issues and concerns in their respective areas during the past year and what is on the horizon for 2010 followed by a question and answer period. Willie’s Column: Christmas and I go way back
What started out as a small celebration has turned into quite the tumultuous event. I remember my father saying most of the guys in the Army wanted to spend New Years at home while he was one of the few that would rather be home for Christmas. Everyone has different traditions and Continue reading
Farmers Market to come in out of the cold
For the last 200 years agriculture has played a major role in Central New York. Recently there has been a movement amongst consumers in this area to take advantage of the tremendous bounty of this area through farmers markets. All summer long these markets have provided wonderful fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy products to urban and rural consumers. While some think winter signals the end of these local treats, farmers and producers continue to grow and provide many great products. In order to help get these great products to consumers there will be a Farmers Market every third Saturday of the month (Jan 16, Feb. 20, March 20 and April 17) in Dave’s Diner at Common Grounds in Cazenovia from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The producers from the summer Cazenovia Market were invited and though some do not have products to sell in the winter, many are attending. Frosty Morning Farm will offer dried herbs and soaps; Drover Hill Farm will bring their dry aged beef and pork, farm fresh eggs from Brick Farm and baked goods and mixes from Organically Hip. Other local producers will also attend. Heamour Farm will offer their fine hand crafted cheese, Full Quiver Farm has homemade breads, Cazenovia’s Primo and Mary’s Heritage salsas and pestos and Loomis Homesteads Maple products.
The Cazenovia Winter Farmers Market will be a great opportunity for all to come out and enjoy Central New York’s bounty. While you are there you can enjoy a coffee or lunch at Dave’s Diner.
