To the editor: Community host hired at Common Grounds

The Project C.A.F.E. (Community Activities for Everyone) Board has been pondering ways to utilize Common Grounds as Cazenovia’s “community living room,” an intimate setting for local groups and individuals to hold meetings and events. I have recently been hired for the new Community Host position, where I will be available to assist with all aspects behind space usage.

Comfortable accommodations can be met for groups of around 40 people downstairs, and 18 in the upstairs meeting room. The space is fully equipped to meet basic audio/visual needs for music, presentation, and speaking engagements.

We are dedicated to the prospect of Common Grounds becoming an increasingly constructive space for the community. I am looking forward to helping with your event!

If you have any questions you may contact me by phone at 345-0330 or email at googin@riseup.net.

To the editor: Riley for Sheriff

As a lifelong resident of Madison County and a retired member of the New York State Police, I strongly recommend that voters cast their vote for Al Riley as Sheriff on November 3, 2009.

To the editor: She cares about this community enormously

We are writing this letter in support of the candidacy of Kristi Andersen who is running for re-election to the Cazenovia Town Board. She has served on the Town Board since 2005 and has lived in Cazenovia for more than 25 years.  Her civic activities in Cazenovia have included the Cazenovia Public Library, the Cazenovia Children’s House and the Cazenovia Area Community Development Association.
Kristi has been a Professor of Political Science at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University for 25 years and has been designated a Meredith Professor for excellence in teaching.  As a panelist on the popular Ivory Tower half-hour weekly television show on public television, she is familiar to a wide audience.
Kristi is a person who always considers all aspects of an issue and thinks about all sides before coming to her own conclusions.  She is one of the fairest people we could have working on our behalf and she cares about this community enormously.  Everyone who has worked with her comments on the clarity of her vision and considers her a strong advocate for Madison County.
We feel strongly that she deserves re-election and a chance to continue to work on the important issues in the area.  These include the protection of the lake, land and farm property, protection from aggressive development and implementation of the comprehensive plan for the area which has recently been put into place.  Please vote for Kristi and allow her to continue her wonderful work.

To the editor: Andersen is one of Cazenovia’s best assets

Kristi Andersen’s leadership on behalf of our community has included serving on the boards of the Cazenovia Library, Cazenovia Forum and the Cazenovia Area Community Development Association, along with her work as Town Board member. During her first term on the Town Board, she helped secure the future of Cazenovia by developing a Comprehensive Plan as well as new zoning and subdivision laws that present a clear blueprint for economic growth and land use stewardship in Cazenovia.  She worked to protect our lake.  She was also instrumental in bringing two million dollars in state farmland protection funds to Cazenovia farmers.
As a professor at SU’s Maxwell School and a panelist on WCNY’s “Ivory Tower,” Kristi has demonstrated her ability to analyze a problem and address it with clarity and foresight.  She also knows how to listen.  Civil discourse and an attitude of mutual respect and good will are essential for good government.  Kristi exemplifies this in her work as Town Board member.
In short we are fortunate in Cazenovia to have someone with such extraordinary expertise who is willing to continue to serve on our Town Board.  Please support her in her bid for re-election.
Sincerely,
Cindy McCall
